Math Program
Our math curriculum draws on current research findings and principles outlined in the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics (NCTM) process standards.
Champions Academy ensures that students assimilate essential core skills in:
Numbers and Operations: Comprehending and performing numeration and computation.
Concepts and Applications: Comprehending and performing algebra; geometry; measurement; data analysis and probability; and problem solving, including change, grouping, comparing, restating and varying.
In addition, our program addresses the Problem-Solving Process, Reasoning and Proof, Connections and Communication, and Representation and Productive Disposition.

Students learn to communicate mathematically and to explain the process used to arrive at their answers. Our instructors are trained to ask questions that enhance students’ understanding of mathematical concepts and processes and help them develop critical thinking skills.

Reading Program
Champions’ reading curriculum is based on recent research and incorporates the National Reading Panel’s five key areas of reading instruction.
Each lesson, delivered through systematic, intensive and explicit instruction, addresses specific reading skills:
Alphabetic Knowledge and Phonemic Awareness: Letter knowledge acquisition and promotion of fluency of letter knowledge for beginning readers.
Phonics: Practice blending, segmenting and manipulating sounds. Emphasis on decoding unknown words quickly and accurately to improve comprehension and reading fluency.
Fluency: Students repeat oral readings practicing reading pace, accuracy and intonation to develop fluency.
Vocabulary: Focus is on word knowledge, structural analysis and context clues.
Comprehension Instruction: Students learn about accessing prior knowledge, identifying main ideas and supporting details, sequencing, story grammar, text features and author’s purpose.
Our program presents clear, focused and interactive instruction and is designed to support the needs of students with disabilities and English language learners.
