Go Wild! Camp

Become a naturalist explorer!

summer science camp

Here are some the adventures your child will experience during the morning session:

The children go on a Mini-Beast Safari using their magnifying glass, bug togs and insect house to inspect ladybugs.

One of a naturalist’s most important tools is the microscope! The children learn about the reflection and refraction of light and how lenses can be used to form a magnified image while building their own microscope.

No class of animals has mastered flight as well as the birds. The children investigate these animal aviators and build binoculars.

Children explore the mysterious world of bats. They participated in a pollination activity and built a bat wrist wrap to demonstrate a bat’s similarities to other mammals.

The children focus on a special group of vertebrate animals called amphibians. They take a close look at a frog’s life cycle and take home a sticky tongue.

The children journey to the deepest and darkest depths of the ocean as they discover the midnight, abyssal, and hadal zones. Children build their own deep-sea dwellers and show how they create their own light sources.

Finally, the children will be able to encounter several different live animals! Animal Encounter staff display the animals and teach the children about their adaptations.

Here are some the adventures your child will experience during the afternoon session:

Children build a firefly out of K’nex pieces and learn how these fascinating insects use bioluminescence to communicate with each other.

It’s tough to live in the surf of the inter-tidal zone, but hardy mollusks and echinoderms know the way!  They build their own tidal pool to examine turtles and other animals.

There’s nothing more exotic than an octopus. Children build an octopus arm and discover how these amazing animals get around.

Each day ends with an exciting game that reinforces scientific concepts and promotes teambuilding. These activities are essential to embedding the science learned every day!

The wild is calling as the children build a game to review the exciting science of the past week.  It’s a race to Gizmo’s campsite!  But be careful of the animals that lurk in the wild.
